We sent out the call to adventure, and you answered!

May 1st marked the kick-off event at the Rotary Burrito Brunch at Centennial Park, followed by food and fun at the first Thursday Night Market of the season. Our online Calendar Pass, free to the public, launched 150 activities, specific to our city, to participate in over 150 days. From May 1-September 30th, Chico locals rose to the 150 challenges, rediscovering old favorites and finding new places to love. A big shout out to first-place winner Tim Colby who completed the most activities, followed closely by 2nd and 3rd place winners Debbie Terrell and Sarah Lajon.

The Cal Water Tower got dressed up in a new 150th Birthday wrap

Nothing says happy birthday better than a banner 125.66 feet wide and 120 feet off the ground. Chico’s iconic water tower on the corner of 6th Avenue and Oleander joined the festivities by sporting a festive banner for all the city to see. This was a first-of-its-kind event in Chico; a water tower had never been wrapped before, and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate the city’s birthday. Thanks to Cal Water for sponsoring this feat!

Release of the Sierra Nevada Brewery Hoppy 150 Years Beer

Created especially for Chico’s 150th birthday, beloved local brewing company Sierra Nevada brewed a special limited-release beer available only in Chico at the Sierra Nevada Gift Store, select retailers in town, and at the Community Birthday Party. With the theme of “Rooted in Community,” Chico’s 150th Anniversary Ale toasts our best city’s 150th birthday with drinkable notes of pine, citrus, malt, and caramel. And the biggest community birthday party Chico has ever seen!

On September 24th, Meriam Park graciously hosted Chico’s 150th Birthday Party! Bold and beautifully retro Celebrating 150 invitations went out to the community in the mail, summoning locals to the final hurrah for Chico’s landmark fete. The celebration ran from 2-6pm and offered an amazing array of things to do, see, and taste. Attendees enjoyed a food truck feast, with everything from pizza to craft-smoked bbq, a beer garden serving up Sierra Nevada Hoppy 150 Birthday Beer and Farmer’s Brewing beer, and a local artisan Craft Market. A visit from the Enloe Medical Center Flight Care helicopter, vintage police cars, and fire trucks, and live music from Chad Bushnell made it an event to remember.

Celebrating 150 Days was a wonderful tribute to Chico, the perfect way for our community to come together and celebrate this beautiful and historical place we call home. Watch the video below for some of our favorite scenes from 2022.

Here’s to another 150 years!
