Go visit the Bidwell Mansion State Historic Park to experience a tangible piece of Chico’s history which represents a moment in time in the Victorian era. Preserved and frozen in time to reflect the late 1800’s, this Italianate-style home was constructed in 1868 and was one of the most modern mansions on the West Coast at its completion. It featured plumbing, electricity, and elaborate design elements like an elephant trunk toilet. Home to General John and Annie Bidwell, it was the hub of the Chico social in its heyday.
